You may audition for one or both shows at the same time.
LOTS OF FUN ROLES SMALL and LARGE for ALL AGES.
SEUSSICAL will have an adult cast and a youth cast.
Audition appointments recommended.
Walk-ins will be seen on a space available basis.

HOW TO SCHEDULE AN AUDITION

To schedule an audition, send an email to info@americanrosetheatre.com

Please include the following information

• Your name
• Show(s) you are auditioning for - Seussical and/or Broadway Magic
• A time between 11:00am and 4:00pm you would like to audition - we are scheduling in roughly 5 minute increments. Please give us a range of time(s) for scheduling your audition. i.e "between 2:30 and 3pm"
• We will email or call you to confirm your audition time.
• If you are auditioning for Broadway Magic, please tell us your age.
• There will be paperwork to download and fill out before your audition - we will have it available soon.

CALLBACK INFORMATION

Callbacks for SEUSSICAL will be on Saturday, May 16th beginning at 12:30pm in Penasquitos.

We will cast BROADWAY MAGIC from the first audition and assign parts during rehearsals.

AUDITION PREPARATION

• Schedule your audition appointment for May 9th.
• Prepare a 1 minute song of your choice at auditions.
  Our director requests that you do NOT choose a song from Seussical.
• Bring your background music on a CD or iPod to auditions - unless you are really young, or brand new to musical theatre auditions, no a capella singing at auditions.
• Bring 2 copies of your headshot & resume - if you have one. If you don't have a headshot, we may ask to take a picture of you.
• Bring a conflict calendar showing conflicts between June 1 and July 26, 2009.

• Fill out all FORMS BEFORE arriving.

• Pay all production fees before you audition.
• If you are under 18 years of age, your parent or guardian MUST accompany you to the audition.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST AUDITION?

• Again - Remember to smile and have fun.
• If you have never auditioned for a show before, the most important thing to remember is to relax. Everyone you will be singing for is happy to see you, and we want you to do great! We want you to walk out of the audition feeling that you did well and had a lot of fun doing it. And hopefully would do it again!
• If this is your very first audition, you may opt to bring one friend or relative in the room with you.
• Need help picking an audition song? If you aren't sure what to sing, we will be glad to send you some suggestions. There is great music out there. You probably have some favorites of your own - maybe one of those would be a great choice.

REHEARSAL INFORMATION

SEUSSICAL rehearsals will begin in early June. We will have an easy rehearsal schedule until school is out for students. We usually have evening rehearsals mid-week - 2 to 3 times per week and Saturday and/or Sunday rehearsals during the daytime.

BROADWAY MAGIC rehearsals will begin in mid-June. Rehearsals will be weekend afternoons or possibly early evenings mid-week, but NOT at the same time as SEUSSICAL rehearsals.

ABOUT OUR FEES

ART recognizes that many families are trying to make every dollar count in these tough economic times. In January, the Board of Directors voted unanimously to reduce our standard production fees from $345 (fee, script, costume) to $250 for our summer musical.

To qualify for the family discount, participants must be related and living in the same household (i.e siblings, parent/child). College students who live away from home qualify for the discount if participating with a family member.

It only takes a brief glance at the local and national newspapers to see that performing arts groups across the country are suffering - some have even been forced to shut down their operation.  Since 1996, our goal at ART has been to offer quality productions to the community.  In order to keep our costs low, we count on production fees, ticket sales, and to a smaller extent than many arts groups, donations.  You can help ART be successful by spreading the word - encouraging friends and family to come see our shows, and buying tickets yourself!  Oh - and if you feel inclined, your tax-deductible donations are cheerfully accepted.

PROFESSIONAL vs. NON-PROFESSIONAL and YOUTH ACTORS

+ American Rose Theatre is open to professional actors, as well as young actors interested in working alongside and learning from experienced professionals in the same productions. There are stipends for some roles for non-Equity Professional Actors. Professional actors are defined as those meeting the requirements for a professional THEATRE actor, as defined by Actors Alliance of San Diego for their annual All City Auditions.

Our youth staging of SEUSSICAL is open to student actors age 7 to 24 who want to advance their theatre skills, no matter what level they are at. We welcome young actors who are new to theatre, as well as have plenty of performing credits, who want to work and have fun in a challenging and supportive theatre community. Highly skilled youth actors will be invited to participate in the adult cast.
