PRODUCTION DETAILS

THE MUSIC MAN is being presented by American Rose Theatre, the professional arm of the company which produces non-Equity professional theatre. The director will be looking for professional level actors who are age appropriate to their parts. See specific roles listed below.

American Rose Theatre is open to professional actors, as well as young actors with high skill levels, who may have 'aged-out' of youth programs, but are serious about pursuing acting in college and the professional world.

American Rose Theatre - Youth is open to student actors from 10-23 who are serious about advancing their skills. (For more information about ART Youth, see below)

REHEARSAL

THE MUSIC MAN rehearsals will normally be held on 2 weekday evenings (either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) from (5pm-9pm),
and Saturday & Sunday afternoons (1pm - 5pm).

AUDITION DETAILS
  • Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled audition time.
  • Download the audition paper work, and fill out before coming to auditions
  • Bring a list of your conflicts between May 19 and August 2.
  • Bring 4 copies of your headshot/resume to audition (headshot can be a recent snapshot - please attach headshots to your resume)
  • First auditions will be singing only. Select a song from the suggested list below and come prepared to sing the portion indicated. (These selections are approximately 1 minute each.)
  • If you are auditioning for both THE MUSIC MAN and LI'L ABNER, please select one song from either show that suits you best.
  • If you are auditioning for only one show, please select a song from that show.
  • If you have already prepared a one minute audition song that you would rather sing, bring your own CD or tape with the accompaniment. We will provide a CD or tape player.
  • CALLBACK INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED HERE ON THURSDAY, May 3rd.
  • Walk-ins accepted on a space available basis only.

THE MUSIC MAN STIPEND

There are stipends for non-Equity Professional Category Actors in some roles. Professional category actors are defined as those meeting the requirements outlined in the All Cities Auditions Guidelines of the Actors Alliance of San Diego See All Cities Qualifications for Participation.

Actors under 18 years of age and student actors will not receive stipends.

THE MUSIC MAN TUITION
**Student actors only**

American Rose Theatre and its Youth Theatre is particularly interested in developing the talent of young actors who are serious about honing their skills and taking the next step in their acting careers. Special attention is given to imparting skills essential for success in High School and College programs and in the professional world.

Student actors participating in THE MUSIC MAN will be subject to the same tuition as LI'L ABNER.

If a student is already in LI'L ABNER, the tuition for THE MUSIC MAN will be an additional $195 plus $50 costume fee.

• Student Participation in THE MUSIC MAN only - $295 Plus $50 costume fee.
• Student Participation in both LI'L ABNER and THE MUSIC MAN - $490 plus $100 costume fee.
• Fees for LI'L ABNER are paid at the time of first auditions.
• Students invited to participate in THE MUSIC MAN may pay their fees at the first rehearsal.

(Baritone, A flat to high F, 25-35) A charming conman who is ruining the reputation of all traveling salesmen.

Marion Paroo

The town's music teacher/town librarian. An upright, outspoken, and honest woman.

Marcellus Washburn

(Tenor, G to high A) Hill's old friend & one-time partner-in-crime.

Mrs. Paroo

(Mezzo, A flat to E flat) Marian's Irish mother.
Mayor Shinn (Non-Singing) The blustery self-important mayor of River City
Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn (Alto, D to D) The mayor's strutting peacock wife.
Zaneeta Shinn The mayor's oldest daughter - Excellent Dancer.
Tommy Djilas Zaneeta's popular, mischievious young suitor. Excellent Dancer.
Winthrop Paroo (C to E flat) Marian's self conscious little brother. Speaks with a lisp. Age 10-12.
We will be casting an understudy for this role.
Amaryllis (Alto, C to E), Marian's young piano student. Loves Winthrop, Age 10-12

American Rose Theatre - Youth is open to student actors from 6-23 who are serious about advancing their skills. Participation in this show is an educational experience designed to both introduce young actors to theatre arts, and to coach already experienced actors to the next level of their development. In the interest of giving its student actors as rich an experience as possible, a limited number of student actors may be invited to participate side by side with professional actors in THE MUSIC MAN.
